NAFDAC Protects Nigerians with Public Awareness & Major Enforcement Actions Against Substandard Products
Abuja & Nationwide, Nigeria — The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) continues to safeguard public health by combating misinformation, cracking down on dangerous products, and enforcing quality standards for foods, drugs, cosmetics, and related regulated items across Nigeria.
NAFDAC Warns Against Fake Recruitment Scam Targeting Job Seekers
In early February 2026, NAFDAC issued a public warning urging Nigerians not to fall for a fake recruitment notice circulating on social media that claimed to be from the agency. The Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, clarified that no official recruitment exercise has been announced yet and emphasised that NAFDAC communicates legitimate opportunities only via its verified platforms. The agency warned the public to be cautious and avoid falling victim to fraudsters posing as NAFDAC officials.
This proactive communication highlights NAFDAC’s commitment to protecting citizens from misinformation and financial exploitation — a key component of its public health mandate.
Massive Destruction of Fake and Substandard Products Worth ₦10 Bn Reinforces Public Safety
In a related significant enforcement action reported late in December 2025, NAFDAC destroyed more than 618 tonnes of counterfeit, expired, substandard and unwholesome regulated products valued at over ₦10.19 billion in Kano State. The destroyed goods—including fake medicines, adulterated foods, and hazardous cosmetics—posed serious health risks to consumers.
Represented by the NAFDAC Director of the North-West Zone, the Director-General noted that the exercise sends a clear message that the agency will not tolerate dangerous products entering Nigeria’s markets and jeopardising public health.
Why These Developments Matter for Nigeria
Combatting Fraud and Protecting Citizens
By issuing public alerts on fraudulent recruitment and fake notices, NAFDAC protects job seekers and the general public from scams that exploit the agency’s reputation — reinforcing trust in official communications and promoting informed engagement.
Enforcing Quality & Safety Standards
The destruction of products worth billions demonstrates NAFDAC’s relentless enforcement of safety standards, helping reduce the circulation of harmful drugs, contaminated foods, unsafe cosmetics, and other regulated goods that would otherwise threaten consumer health.
Improving Public Health and Economic Confidence
These actions show NAFDAC’s dual role as both a protector of public health and an enabler of safe economic activity — assuring compliant manufacturers and traders that quality and safety matter, while consumers enjoy better protection and confidence in products available in the market.
