Abuja, Nigeria — In a significant move to reinforce discipline, constitutional order and professional integrity within the armed forces, Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters has confirmed that several military officers will be tried on charges connected to an alleged coup attempt against the country’s democratically elected government.
According to the military, an investigative panel established late last year unearthed evidence linking some of the officers — originally detained in October 2025 — to a plan to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. The probe followed the arrest of at least 16 officers on initial allegations of indiscipline and service regulation breaches, and has since identified a number of officers with cases to answer.
